Tour of St. Andrew’s Monastery and Adamclisi, followed by a wine tasting at the Viișoara Winery, with hotel pickup
About This Tour
Embark on a day trip through the heart of Dobrogea, a region where sacred legends, millennia of history, and wine-making traditions blend harmoniously under the gentle southern sun. Your first stop takes you to an oasis of peace and contemplation, in the forest surrounding St. Andrew’s Monastery. Here you’ll step into the famous cave carved into the rock, considered the oldest Christian church in Romania, the place where, according to tradition, the Apostle Andrew took refuge and preached the faith in ancient Scythia Minor. The serene atmosphere of the monastic settlement and the beauty of its architecture offer an emotionally charged start to the day.
The journey continues in the footsteps of the Roman emperors to Adamclisi, one of the most impressive ancient sites in the country. For an hour and a half, you’ll discover the imposing triumphal monument Tropaeum Traiani, erected in 109 AD by Emperor Trajan to commemorate the victories in the Dacian-Roman wars. Accompanied by a guide, you’ll explore the ruins of the ancient Roman fortress and the archaeological museum, which houses the original stone-carved metopes—true visual chronicles of antiquity that depict the lives, weapons, and courage of our ancestors with astonishing fidelity.
After this journey through history, the afternoon is dedicated to culinary delights and relaxation at the Viișoara Winery. Set in a picturesque natural setting, surrounded by hundreds of hectares of vineyards bathed in the Dobrujan sun, the winery opens its doors to reveal the secrets of modern winemaking. You’ll savor a selection of expressive and aromatic wines, perfectly complemented by carefully chosen appetizers, while enjoying the view of the green hills and the stories of the region, before heading back to the hotel at a leisurely pace.
