Here, on the picturesque streets and in Hristo Botev Square, you’ll witness the reenactment of ancient customs for preparing the famous “Elenski but,” a unique specialty made from salted and dried pork leg. Among the hundreds of artisan stalls, you’ll be able to sample exceptional dishes, accompanied by local brandy and the lively atmosphere of a vibrant folk program.
Beyond the culinary delights, you’ll have the opportunity to stroll through a town steeped in history. With its distinctive architecture from the Bulgarian Renaissance period, Elena is home to no fewer than seven cultural monuments of national importance, including the Hilarion House Museum and the impressive clock tower. After the colorful bustle of the festival, the journey continues to an oasis of tranquility and spirituality: the Saint Demetrius Monastery in Basarabovo. This monastery, founded by the Basarab family and carved directly into the rock face, is the only cave monastery still in use in Bulgaria, offering a perfect, contemplative conclusion before returning home.

Essential Information
Departure is at 7:00 a.m. from Bucharest (Timpuri Noi area, across from the MOL gas station), with an estimated return in the evening (depending on traffic/route and time spent at the border crossing). The estimated duration is approximately 14 hours. Participation requires a valid ID card or passport, which must be valid until the end of the trip. Seats on the bus are assigned starting with the second row, strictly in the order in which the deposit was paid. Minors under 18 years of age need a valid passport, and if they are not accompanied by both parents, they must present a notarized authorization from the absent parent. Since this is a trip to Bulgaria, we recommend that you have euros on hand for purchases from local artisans. During the warm season, we recommend wearing casual clothing suitable for high temperatures, and don’t forget to stay hydrated, which is essential for your well-being. The itinerary includes short walks, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Please be punctual; the bus will not be able to wait for individuals who are late.
